Since May, the Campus store has a new manager, Mr.Scott Bingel. Below is some of the announcement.
Al Carper, executive vice president, announced today that effective Monday, May 16, Scott Bingel will become manager of the Campus Store. “Scott is excited about this transition,” says Mr. Carper, “he has served the University well the past 25 years in Public Safety, 17 of those years as chief. With his bachelor’s degree in business management and current enrollment as an MBA student, I’m pleased he wants to apply his talents in a new area and am looking forward to the new ideas he will bring to the Campus Store.”
Concurrently Joe Mulnix, Public Safety operations captain, will replace Scott as chief of the Department of Public Safety. Joe brings thirty years of progressive law enforcement experience to the position, including Uniformed Patrol Officer with three police departments in Iowa and Colorado and over 20 years in a variety of positions with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota, including Criminal Investigations Division, Court Security Division, Narcotics/Drug Task Force, and eight years supervising the Civil Division. He has been with Public Safety at BJU the last two years. “With the continually changing institutional security needs, I’m especially pleased to have someone with Joe’s diverse law enforcement experience heading our campus security,” says Mr. Carper.
Mr.Bingel is excited to be at the store. In this post we wanted to introduce him to our customers and let you know about the human side of the Campus Store.
Can you tell us a little about yourself? Where you’re from, something interesting about yourself.
I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. After going through the famous “Blizzard of ‘77” I am still amazed how a couple of inches of snow shuts down traffic in Greenville. I graduated from BJU in 1985 with a business degree and spent the next 25 years in the areas of law enforcement and emergency medicine as an EMT and paramedic.
Do you have any hobbies or interests?
I like football, baseball and hockey. I follow the Atlanta Braves and the Buffalo Bills. Hockey is not as popular here in the south but when I can, I enjoy watching the Buffalo Sabres play.
What is your favorite type of books?
My favorite books are Louis L’Amour westerns. It is becoming difficult to find his books that I have not read but I enjoy rereading the ones I have – they never get old.
What are you looking forward to at the Bookstore?
Changing from law enforcement to the campus store seems to be about as opposite directions as one can go. I am looking forward to the challenge of this new direction to use my business education in a different way. I see a lot of great potential in our campus store and I am looking forward to hearing from our customers with your ideas on how we can better serve you and provide the products you need at the best price we can provide.
